"Do you require assistance?" came the voice over the comm system as Brian Thorn and his Battle Mech struggled to hold up a skyscraper. During his battle with the latest monster to invade Tokyo, Thorn had fired a missile at the beast, but instead the projectile smashed into this building. The blast scared the creature away, but now Thorn had a bigger problem on his hands.
"Oh no," Thorn said, his voiced writhed with sarcasm, "holding up buildings is one of the things that I do best." He gritted his teeth as his white-knuckled fists held fast onto the controls, controls that wanted greatly to go the opposite way that he was pushing. "Come on, baby" he begged the machine, "don't give out on me yet."
The massive machine seemed quite small compared to the colossal chunk of building it currently held in its hands, and the thrusters were doing nothing to keep the two from crashing into the ground below. Thorn had coaxed his Mech into delaying the inevitable for just long enough to turn the building so it wouldn't hit others, and now to wait for the streets to clear. Police and other ground crews were working as fast as they could, but Thorn feared it might not be fast enough.
"Damn it, Thorn," came the voice of General Grant, "this is no time to be a hero."
"Really, General, what are you going to do to help?" He paused as the General had nothing to say. "Exactly. Now shut the hell up, you're distracting me."
Slowly both incredibly sized objects lowered towards the street and Thorn knew that it was now or never. Somehow, as if completely overlooked, a young Japanese child stood awestruck in the middle of a great shadow that was only getting bigger.
"Stupid kid!" Thorn yelled as he realized the youngster was about to get turned into paste. "Get the fuck out of the way you damned retard!" Being inside a cockpit that is part of the innards of this massive metal giant, the child heard nothing of the sort. However he did eventually hear a robotic voice say, "Step aside, citizen." Once the Japanese subtitles appeared the boy ran off.
All obstacles gone, now all Thorn had to do was land this building without getting crushed. He used small bursts with his thrusters to pivot the far end of the building to the ground. Thorn's perfect hearing detected a tear in a gear somewhere inside the machine, and the far end of the building crashed to the street. Shock waves tremored through the ground for miles, setting off car alarms and knocking over people and small fixtures.
"Just a bit longer," Thorn demanded as he slowly lowered the other end to the ground. He was underneath the building and was inching out towards the near side as if walking it down with his hands. Finally he was out from under the tower and found two beams in the busted fixture he could use to gently lower this end to the ground.
People started climbing out of the building as the Mech took a few steps away from it.
More people poured out from the streets to help while the Mech finally came to a slow stop, it's stance hunched awkwardly.
Thorn's calm demeanor and rather inquisitive face seemed to have no control over his hands, which were still grasping the controls intently. Eventually he willed himself the ability to peel off one hand, and then used the combined powers of his mentality and his now free hand to peel away the other. Finally Thorn allowed himself to blink, and then took a deep, cleansing breath.
The Mech sighed as well, as the hatch to the cockpit opened and the mild depressurization took place, but it wasn't nearly as loud as it's groan slightly before. Something inside the beast was damaged, probably a lot of somethings, and would need to be fixed very soon. However the absolute loudest sound was the roar of the crowd as the people, now safe, all saw the hero step out of the machine.
By the time the recovery team made it to the scene Thorn was already surrounded by thankful victims, fans, and members of the media. Emily Ward was not the least bit surprised that the majority, no, all of the people closest to Thorn were attractive females. She did make sure to go out of her way to make sure he knew that she disapproved.
"Busy?" she asked, a hand on her hip and her foot tapping impatiently.
"Not really," Thorn answered back, "why don't you come up here and join me?" Thorn flashed his million dollar smile and Emily just shook her head in disgust and crossed her arms. All the women around Thorn swooned, however, which spread his cocky grin even further across his face.
"It's time for your debriefing," Emily demanded. Turning on her heels she walked off, signaling to Thorn that he had to follow her or else.
"See, ladies" he flirted with his crowd, not really certain any of them knew English, "she wants do debrief me." His raised eyebrow and the influctuation of his voice caused them all to giggle, and then "aww" as he pushed through them towards his ever elusive mark.
When he joined her and the rest of the team at the Mech Dr. Kagan was already in tears. Emily was trying to console him, but he couldn't fathom the damaged done to the machines internal components. As far as he was concerned, the Mech was ruined, and as far as he, Emily, General Grant, and all the pilots were concerned, it was all Thorn's fault.
Grant walked straight up to Thorn, happy to peer into his eyes and deliver his message. "You are officially off the team."

"Off the team?" Thorn's shouts filled the briefing chamber back at the facility. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Your reckless abandon nearly caused the destruction of that machine, and our entire operation!" Grant layed into Thorn, knowing he could say whatever he wanted without Mrs. Pryor on the premisis.
"Reckless abandon?" Thorn put the playful demeanor he'd tried since he joined this team to the side and brought out the character most of his fans would know him as. "Look here, General! You don't have one pilot, not one, that is capable of piloting that machine with the skill and finesse that I have. If not for me, hundreds of people, maybe thousands, inside that building would have crashed to a horrid death. I saved them, General, not one of your lap dog pilots, not your scientists, me!"
A crack, just a crack in Grant's demeanor told Thorn he was getting through. "I made the best decisions I could out on the field, and they were the only decisions to have been made. We both know that." Now General Grant was beaten. His face contorted in spite, but he backed off. They both knew that the Mech project wouldn't have gotten off the ground without Brian Thorn.
But Thorn already knew that. He realized at that moment that the only thing holding this project back was their complete lack of faith in him. Despite being the best of the best, despite being the only qualified candidate and despite being the obvious choice, these people didn't respect him. A group of people not respecting Brian Thorn for his true talent. Suddenly he felt like he was back in the indy leagues of professional wrestling, or a stand in for an actor instead of stealing the scene.
He didn't need that and certainly didn't want it. He was the top dog in two other careers, he didn't need to be here taking crap from people who couldn't see talent for what it truly is. Brian Thorn was the best, and that wouldn't change, but if they wanted him they'd have to come after him. Nobody tried to stop him as he left the compound.

As Sophia Vasquez Pryor, head of the Battle Mech team, made her way from her limousine to the front door of the hotel, she couldn't help but notice the attractive Japanese girls, with incredibly week knees, flagging down a taxi. She noted the site and then entered the building.
Once inside she introduced herself and was treated well. Mrs. Pryor was known in these parts for her money and influence, so when she asked to be escorted to the penthouse suite there was no hesitation. As they walked towards the elevator three more attractive Japanese girls got off and made their exit, each one noticably weak in the knees as well.
Two more in the hallway who got onto the elevator after Mrs. Pryor and her escort left. These two were blondes, European or American she guessed. Also they were a bit less clothed than the others but apparently the plan was to finish dressing in the elevator.
As they stepped towards the penthouse door they couldn't help but hear moans and high pitched screams of ecstacy. "What is going on?" Sophia asked her escort, who happened to be the Hotel Manager.
"For over a week," he said with a thick Japanese accent, "these girls have been coming and going. Mr. Thorn is a very famous man and these girls come to show their appreciation." The Hotel Manager seemed quite happy at the arrangement Brian Thorn seemed to have with the female population of Tokyo. And why not? Thorn was spending a great deal of money at his establishment.
"Over a week," she asked, though her voice sounded more of an echo.
"Yes," the Hotel Manager smiled while knocking on the Penthouse door, "and he's still going strong."
With everyone else apparently two weak in the knees to answer the door, the one and only Brian Thorn slung open the portal wearing only a smile and a feather boa. "Hey, boss," he said with a smile as he eyed the lovely Mrs. Pryor, who vigorously eyed him back.
Beyond him his harem lay sprawled out amongst the furniture. A healthy mix of American or European girls filled in with a majority of Japanese girls lie mostly worn out. Some are passed out, others are just biding their time before they try to expend energy again. A few wait on the bed for Thorn to return.
Mrs. Pryor walked into the penthouse and did a remarkable job keeping her poise while surveying the scene. Saliva fell from the Hotel Manager's mouth as he peered in, but soon found a powerful hand on his chest pushing him away from the room. Thorn shook his head as he closed the door and edged up to his employer.
"So this is what you've been doing since you left the compound?" Sophia asked. She still didn't really know what to make of her surroundings.
"Well some of these girls have come and gone," he said strutting around, "but other than a few breaks for the necessities, yeah."
She turned to face him, unsure whether to be disgusted by his act or enthralled by his legend. Suddenly she realized where her eyes had wandered, and looked back up to his smiling face. "Well," she said trying to keep her poise, "at least you're still full of energy."
"That is a beautiful necklace," he said taking the pendant in his hand and rubbing it with his thumb. He then looked back up at her, "It really brings out your eyes."
"I'm not one of your harem girls," she said as she coerced the necklace out of his hand. For a moment she may have been disgusted, but Brian Thorn's reputation was known throughout the world. It wasn't really her place to change who he was. "Besides, I'm here on business."
"Oh?"
"A new player is in town, goes by the name of Dr. Red."
"And you came hoping to lure me back to fighting the good fight?" Thorn reached into the refridgerator and pulled out a handful of grapes. He popped a few into his mouth and leaned against the counter.
"I can't promise you'll have as good a time with us as you have been having on your own." Sophia crept towards the door. "Though I thought you might be interested in the some of the upgrades we made on the Battle Mech."
Thorn blinked as she walked out of his suite. "Upgrades?"
"Oh no," Thorn said, his voiced writhed with sarcasm, "holding up buildings is one of the things that I do best." He gritted his teeth as his white-knuckled fists held fast onto the controls, controls that wanted greatly to go the opposite way that he was pushing.
